Connections Profile

Rita Kenyon (Principal & Teacher)

Rita’s Mother was a teacher of Sequence dancing and from an early age, her Mother used Rita as a partner to work out her new routines in their kitchen at home!
Even though dancing was a part of Rita’s life from as far back as she can remember she didn’t actually take up dancing until she was 28 years old.  The first dancing school she attended was Cadman’s Dance Centre where she was taught by Betty and Geoff Morris.  Later she went on to be taught by Irene & Jimmy Pearson at Granada School of Dance.

Rita competed for many years in Medallist Competitions, making the finals and qualifying to dance in the nationwide finals.  In Freestyle Rita was outstanding coming 2nd place in ALL the Medallist of the Year Competitions that she entered.

In 1985, turning professional Rita qualified with the I.D.T.A.  By this point she was teaching at Cadman’s Dance Centre, with Wayne Newhouse coaching her towards her qualification.

Rita has had many successful achievements but her greatest one yet was to have nine of her twelve semi-finalist girls over 12 years of age in the Latin section.  Impressively, five of these made the final and to add to such joy one of these won the competition.

At Manchester Airport, a show took place that was choreographed by Rita and was performed superbly by children in front of an audience made up of 500 people.  In the audience were members of the Coronation Street cast and other well-known drama’s of that time.

Here at Connections Dance Centre Rita teaches Ballroom and Latin to all classes and coaches dancers towards their qualifications.  Rita is qualified and registered with the I.D.T.A.
