Tom began taking an interest in dancing at the age of 9 years old. He became a pupil of Connections Dance Centre where he attended many different classes learning Latin-American, Ballroom, Freestyle, Rock & Roll and Street Dancing and after a matter of months, he was passionate about dancing.
Tom has competed in many competitions, successfully winning several titles including the North West Medallist of the Year and the Northern DPA. Tom took great pleasure in taking part in the Supadance League with Connections Dance Centre and in our junior then in our adult team. These also resulted in great success for both Tom and the school. He performed in numerous shows throughout the U.K, many of these being in the West End.
At the age of 17, Tom turned professional taking his Ballroom, Latin-American and Freestyle teacher’s examinations after being coached by Rita Kenyon at Connections Dance Centre. Due to his impressive performance in his first examination, he was nominated for the John Dilworth Scholarship for outstanding achievement. He later went on to win this award from 550 professional candidates.
During the past two years, Tom has been invited to local schools, mainstream and special needs schools, to take dance sessions with the children. Tom was more than happy to accept these invites and enjoyed the events greatly. In 2006, Tom taught a group of Chinese Women whom could speak very little English. This was extremely rewarding experience and was asked to present the awards ceremony after the course had finished.
When Tom was just 16 years old he was asked to lecture at the I.D.T.A North West Teachers Congress. This is where the professionals are taught by the lecturer, this is a fabulous achievement as Tom is one of the youngest if not the youngest to do this. His initial lecture obviously acknowledged as he has been asked to lecture every year since!
At the age of 15, Tom wrote his own musical production of Cinderella, which consisted of many personalised incorporated dance routines. This production was performed to an extremely busy venue and hugely successful gaining recognition from the local press. Tom has gone on to produce several other shows for instance Aladdin. All his productions have been of great success and credit to our school.
Here at Connections Tom teaches Latin, Ballroom, Salsa, Rock & Roll, Freestyle and Street dancing which he loves doing and he loves working and dancing with all the different ages. His ambition is to become an examiner for the I.D.T.A and one day have his very own dancing school. Tom is qualified and registered with the I.D.T.A.
